Community Psychiatric Nursing
A community psychiatric (or mental health) nurse is a psychiatric nurse (registered mental nurse or RMN) based in the community rather than in a psychiatric hospital. They form an integral part of NHS community mental health teams where they are often the person’s ‘key worker’ and thus often the first port of call for referrals to other mental health professionals.
Outside the NHS, they are virtually unknown, but at Phoenix we feel that this arrangement is a huge strength and are proud to be pioneering its use in private practice. Community psychiatric nurses mainly visit people in their own homes but they also see people in other settings by arrangement.
